A sunny May wedding at Mansfield Traquair – Céline & Anthony

Céline and Anthony were married in Edinburgh on the kind of beautifully sunny spring day that we all spend the long winters dreaming about.
Their ceremony took place at Christ Church in Morningside and from there, guests made their way across the city to Mansfield Traquair for the drinks reception and dinner. I’ve photographed weddings at Mansfield Traquair many times over the years, but it remains one of those venues that always feels special – particularly when guests arrive fresh from a ceremony elsewhere and the atmosphere builds from that point on.
With the sun out (a small miracle for May in Edinburgh), drinks were held outside in the garden. It was the perfect opportunity for people to relax, catch up, and enjoy the space, while Céline and Anthony took a little time out for portraits outdoors. We kept things simple and easy – no big production, just a gentle wander and some breathing space together before they joined in with their guests.
Anthony is half Swedish, and the reception included a brilliant Swedish snaps drinking game. Phonetic lyric sheets were provided so the British guests could sing along, which led to a lot of enthusiastic singing and plenty of laughter. It was one of those moments that instantly brings people together and sets the tone for the rest of the evening.
Dinner was held inside Mansfield Traquair’s main hall, and as always, the room was a showstopper. Even after photographing this venue so many times, that space – candles lit, tables filled, the ceiling and wall murals shining above it all – never really loses its impact.
The evening celebrations carried that same relaxed joy right through, with a packed dance floor once Truly Medley Deeply got started. It was a wedding that felt genuinely reflective of Céline and Anthony – joyful, surprising, and full of warmth.
A sunny May day, a meaningful ceremony, and an iconic Edinburgh reception venue used exactly as it should be – this was a really lovely wedding to be part of, and a reminder of why Mansfield Traquair continues to be such a brilliant place to photograph wedding receptions and dinners.
